Where’s MY Money

I happened upon an article the other day giving folks general tip in improving their tax returns by following certain government condoned green practices. The biggest happened to be a green car credit. Depending on the state, filers could get more than $1500.00 in tax credits for purchasing a new green car, which could include gas/electric hybrids, ethanol, bio-fuel, or pure electric cars. This struck me as a little odd.

Sure, all of these kinds of car use less gas, but it is not as if they don’t pollute or that their production process was pollution free. I started to wonder why there wasn’t a tax credit for those of us who choose to (or are forced to due to economic concerns) forgo the convenience have our own personal motorized conveyance device.

One of the draws of New York for me was the choice to not own a car. I ride my bike most day, and take trains on the other days. It is fantastic and as close to free as anything in this country can be. My mode of transportation is also about as good for the environment as is available to us (excepting my body oder after riding ten miles in the middle of the summer, of course.)

So, why do I not get a break on the amount of money that I am force to give the government that does nothing in my interests. Perhaps, as kiki said a few minutes ago, it would offset the extra costs (taxably speaking that is) of living here.

Anyone else with me on that?
